Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a naturally occurring fat - soluble antioxidant that is widely distributed in animals and humans, also known as ubiquinone. Its molecular structure is similar to that of vitamin K. It was first discovered in 1940 and is one of the essential elements for human life. The human body can synthesize CoQ10 from tyrosine, and it can also be obtained from food. Foods rich in CoQ10 include meat, seafood, nuts, seeds, and grains.

MAIN FUNCTIONS
Energy Production: CoQ10 is a coenzyme of the mitochondrial enzyme complex in human cells and an important participant in cell energy metabolism. It plays a fundamental role in the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is the main source of energy for cells.

Antioxidant Defense: It can scavenge free radicals, reduce oxidative stress, improve mitochondrial dysfunction, protect the structure and function of cell membranes, and thus has the effect of delaying aging.

Immune Enhancement: It can enhance the body's immune function and help the body resist diseases.

Cardiovascular Protection: It helps maintain normal blood pressure, protects vascular elasticity, and is beneficial for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases such as heart failure and angina.

Blood Sugar Regulation: It helps improve insulin resistance and regulate blood sugar levels in people with diabetes.

DOSAGE
General Health Maintenance: For healthy people over 30 years old, it is recommended to ingest 10 - 30mg of CoQ10 from food. If additional supplementation is needed, the daily dose should not exceed 50mg (the upper limit for health products).

Disease - related Supplementation: For patients with specific diseases, such as those with heart disease, diabetes, or taking statin medications, the recommended dose is generally 100 - 200mg per day. For example, a 12 - week study in 50 people with diabetes found that those who received 100mg of CoQ10 per day had significantly reduced blood sugar, markers of oxidative stress, and insulin resistance. However, for some conditions like migraines, higher doses up to 400mg per day have been used in studies.

COMMON SPECIFICATIONS
Pharmaceutical Preparations: In China, the approved CoQ10 drug preparations include tablets, capsules, soft capsules, and injections. The specifications of solid preparations are mainly 5mg, 10mg, and 15mg. The injection is 5 - 10mg per day, and the course of treatment is 2 - 4 weeks.

Health Food: The daily dosage range of CoQ10 in health food is 30 - 50mg. The allowable dosage forms include tablets (oral tablets, lozenges, chewable tablets), granules, hard capsules, and soft capsules.
